A native of Calcutta, West Bengal, Aurobindo Ghose (Sri Aurobindo) settled down in this part of south India in 1910 and preached his teaching until his death.

A multi-dimensional personality, Sri was a journalist, an editor, an Indian nationalist, an independence activist, a poet and a philosopher before he devoted himself to a life of spirituality and deep thought.
