Forts And Palaces Tour India

A Tale of Heritage Unfolded

With a history that dates back 5,000 years, India is rich in history and heritage.

The most spectacular exhibits of India’s rich civilizational heritage are the forts, palaces, tombs and temples that dot its entire landscape.

As one of the most fertile and wealthiest parts of the world for much of recorded history (thanks to its natural endowments like great rivers, vast plains, gold and mineral wealth, spices and a conducive climate that sustained agriculture) India has attracted invaders and marauders from other parts of the world for thousands of years.

The construction of formidable forts in vital strategic locations was necessitated by a need for survival and defense against these invaders. You will, therefore, find a host of towering forts in almost all Indian cities of historical significance.

We offer flexible “Forts and Palaces” tour packages to all the top destinations in India.

Explore, with us, the opulent splendor of Udaipur’s City Palace. Discover the historic majesty of Delhi’s Red Fort. Sojourn in the island serenity of Taj Lake Palace. Get blown away by the majestic marvels of Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur and Amber Fort in Jaipur. And, go on a fort tour to Jaisalmer, Rajsamand, Chittograh and Bikaner in Rajasthan.

Udaipur City Palace

1

Opulent Splendor: Explore Udaipur's City Palace

When you think of Indian Palaces, the first place that comes to mind is the “Land of Rajas” Rajasthan, which is home to some of Indian greatest palaces. And, there are very few palaces grander than the residence of the Maharaja of Udaipur.

Originally built in the 1550s by Maharana Udai Singh II, who founded the city that is now named after him, the City Palace Complex blends the architectural tradition of the Rajputana region with the Indo-Saracenic Mughal aesthetic. The result is a stunning marvel on the easter banks of Lake Pichola.

Most of Udaipur’s top attractions like the Lake Palace, Jagdish Temple, Monsoon...

2

Historic Majesty: Unesco Red Fort, Delhi

Delhi’s LAL QILA (literally, Red Fort) was commissioned in 1638 AD by the great Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as the capital of the empire moved from Agra to Delhi. The Red Fort became the residence of the royal family.

Designed by the architect of the Taj Mahal, Ustad Ahmad Lahore, this towering fort fuses together the Hindustani red-stone tradition with Timurid and Persian architectural influences.

Its walls stand 75 feet high and the inside of the fort is an enchanting labyrinth of palatial pavilions, regal Darbars and entertainment halls, geometrical gardens, balconies and reflecting pools.

The emperor held his court in the grand Hall of Private Audience.

Amber Fort Jaipur

3

Majestic Marvel: Discover Amber Fort, Jaipur

The AMBER FORT in Jaipur, perched on top of Amber Hill, is one of the country’s most visited forts and ranks alongside the Red Fort in Delhi in terms of its tourist attraction value.

This 16-th century fort towers above the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur, giving you splendid views of the so-called Pink City and its surrounding landscapes.

A blend of Rajasthani and Mughal traditions, Amber Fort is a veritable mystery with its secret passageways, intricate hidden pathways and tunnels.

MEhrangarh Fort

4

Regal Heights: Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur

Constructed in 1459 AD by Rao Jodha, the formidable 1200-acre MEHRANGARH Fort which towers over the Jodhpur plain from its perch at the top of the hill 410 feet above the city is one of India’s most iconic forts.

There are mini palaces inside the forts, like Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace) and Sheesha Mahal (Palaces of Glasses) and the Chamunda Devi Temple. The complex now houses a museum as well.

Taj Lake Palace

5

Island Serenity: Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur

Another jewel in Udaipur’s crown, the TAJ PALACE was constructed in the 1740s by Maharana Jagat Singh as a summer retreat for the royal family on an island in the middle of the picturesque Lake Pichola.

Shinning like a white pearl in the middle of the lake, the Mewari-styled Taj Lake Palace was converted into a heritage hotel by the descendant of the Maharana, Raja Bhagwat Singh in 1963 with 65 royal suites and rooms.

Since then the hotel has hosted royalty, celebrities and statesmen. Taj Lake Palace garnered a global spotlight when it was featured as the secret lair of the glamorous Bond Girl in the hit James Bond Movie ‘Octopussy’...

6

Heritage Enchantment: Jaipur City Palace

Located within the old walled city of Jaipur, the CITY PALACE was the residence of the royal family.

Commissioned in the 1720s AD by Maharaja Swai Jai Singh II, the magnificent City Palace combines the tradition of the Kingdoms of Mewar (Rajputana) with Indo-Saracenic Mughal aesthetics.

The most important palace in a region teeming with palaces, it comprises 9 blocks, one of which houses the famous Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum. Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) and the Jantar Mantar Astronomical Observatory are located in proximity to it.

7

Architectural Marvel: Junagarh Fort, Bikaner

The erstwhile residence of the royal family of the PRINCELY STATE OF JUNAGARH in Rajasthan, the fort was originally built by the ruler of Bikaner Raja Rai Singh (1571-1612).

Unlike other forts in the region, this fort is located in the middle of the Bikaner city. Comprising sprawling mini palaces, audience halls, temples, pavilions, ladies’ quarters and hallways, the Junagarh Fort is a truly stunning sight.

Jaisalmer Fort

8

Palatial Oasis: Discover The Grandeur Of Jaisalmer Fort

What sets apart the yellow-stone UNESCO World Heritage Site JAISALMER FORT (Rajasthan) from other forts in India is the fact that it is home to thousands of people.

As one of the largest forts in India, it houses in its premises shops, markets, homes, Havelis, restaurants, seven Jain temples and hotels.

Its construction began under the reign of Rajput ruler Rawal Singh Jaisal in 1156 AD, which also makes it one of the oldest forts in the country.

Kumbalgarh Fort

9

Mighty Fortress: Kumbalgarh Fort, Rajsamand

Known as the Great Wall of India, the KUMBALGARH FORT in the Aravalli Hills of the Mewari region of Rajsamand is a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the reign of Rana Kumbha in the 15th century.

The Maharana was a great patron of arts and architecture. The Rajasthan Tourism Department organizes a three-day annual festival, featuring local dances, music, traditional sports and stage dramas to commemorate Rana Kumbha’s epic reign.
