India February Weather Overview

February is perhaps the most pleasant month to visit India, it is spring time, the skies are clear and the days see balmy sunshine with no rain around, the night temperatures drop (but not very drastically).

The North of India is colder than the south, in the coastal regions like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Goa, and Karnataka in the south temperatures can get up to 86 °F (30 °C).

The average daily minimum temperature is around 71 °F (22 °C) and maximum temperature you can expect is 89 °F (32 °C). Remember temperatures tend to drop as you move higher into the northern regions of India.

While it is very pleasant in much of mainland and coastal India, there’s still a little bit of snow in the Himalayan north.

1. Regional Weather Breakdown

Let us look at the regional breakdown of weather patterns in the month of February.

North India: Rajasthan & Golden Triangle

Rajasthan

Like January, February is one of the busiest months on the tourist calendar in North India—with tens of thousands heading to the trio of Golden Triangle cities (Agra, Delhi, and Jaipur) and other parts of Rajasthan (Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Ranthambore National Park and Pushkar).

Average Temperature in Delhi in January: 51 °F- 75°F (11°C – 24°C)

Average Temperature in Jaipur in January: 51 °F- 78°F (11°C – 26°C)

Average Temperature in Agra in January: 50 °F- 78°F (10°C – 26°C)

North India: Kashmir & Himalayas

Kashmir

India’s northernmost state is located in the shadows of tall snow-capped mountains. The average temperature in Kashmir in the month of February is around 39 °F (4°C).

You are going to have to layer up and keep yourself warm if you choose to visit Kashmir or other Himalayan destinations, where snow is still around on the mountains. While it can get quite chilly at night, the days are still bright and clear.

In Uttarakhand known for its hill stations, temperatures fluctuate between 44 °F- 69 °F (7 °C and 21 °C).

South India: Kerala, Goa & the South

Kerala

While in the north of India, February is still the transition period from winter to spring, in south India you won’t find many traces of winter. It is always bright, sunny, and warm with mercury almost touching 90 °F (32 °C).

It is a good time to explore the backwaters of Kerala on a traditional houseboat, laze around on a beach in Karnataka, enjoy a relaxing stay at a hill station in Tamil Nadu, or go on a spice/tea plantation tour in the Western Ghat Mountain Range.

If you are looking for a tropical beachy holiday, Goa is bright and beautiful during this time of the year.

West & Central India: Mumbai & Other Central Part

Mumbai

West and Central India are slightly warmer than Delhi and North India but only just. It is a good time to explore Mumbai (the land of Bollywood), go on a tiger safari in Madhya Pradesh, visit the amazing temples in Khajuraho or explore the ruins of Bhimbetka Rock Shelter.

Average temperature in the region: 51 °F -78 °F (14 °C- 24 °C)
