The Deccan Odyssey is to the South of India what the Palace on Wheels is to the Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra, Rajasthan) region of North India — luxury train travel par excellence. It has won the award for the best luxury train in Asia at the “World Travel Awards” a total of 7 times in the last 15 years.
True to its name, this uber luxury train takes you on an unforgettable odyssey of discovery across the larger Deccan plateau region and the plains of North.
Modelled after the iconic Palace on Wheel Luxury Train the Deccan Odyssey has been operating on 6 different pan-Indian routes since 2004. The Indian Railway joined forces with the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation to help you rediscover the lost aura of royal train caravans.
A journey aboard the Deccan Odyssey is a voyage into the heart and soul of India, across magnificent cities, sprawling plains, fertile valleys, sandy beaches, towering forts, stupendous cultural landmarks and opulent palaces.
Covered Destinations
As of 2023, the Deccan Odyssey offers 6 different journeys across India, crisscrossing some of India’s great cities, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, exotic National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries, Spiritual shrines, beaches, deserts and hill stations.
Known by a different name, each journey aboard the Deccan Odyssey is unique and full of tourist attractions. Each “Odyssey” comprises 8 Days/ 7 Nights.
- MAHARASTRA SPLENDOR: This is a Maharashtra-focused route.
Your journey begins in the heart of MAHARASHTRA in MUMBAI, followed by stopovers at “the Wine-Capital of India” NASHIK, the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of AJANTA & ELLORA, “beach capital of India” GOA, KOHLAPUR and ends where it started in Mumbai.
- INDIAN ODYSSEY: The route combines Delhi, Rajasthan and Maharashtra – ideal to get all 3 places off the bucketlist.
Departing from the nation’s capital in Delhi, your first stop is in Sawai Madhopur in RAJASTHAN at the RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK (famous for its wildlife and tiger spotting safaris), followed by other stops in Rajasthan like JAIPUR and UDAIPUR. The next leg of the journey takes you to the state of MAHARASHTRA with sojourns enroute at AGRA (for the TAJ MAHAL).
- JEWEL OF THE DECCAN: This is a Central and South India-focused route.
Your journey begins in MUMBAI followed by heritage adventures in AJANTA AND ELLORA CAVES and HAMPI (KARNATAKA) and stopovers at the state of Palaces and royalty, HYDERABAD.
- MAHARASHTRA WILD TRAIL JOURNEY: A wildlife-centric route. Comprises MUMBAI, AJANTA & ELLORA CAVES, PENCH National Park, TADOBA National Park, and NASHIK.
- HIDDEN TREASURE OF GUJARAT: A Gujarat-oriented route. You begin in MUMBAI followed by stopovers at VADODARA, SOMNATH, SASAN GIR and the “White Desert of India” RANN OF KUTCH.

Packages for all six routes of the Deccan Odyssey are inclusive of accommodation, dining, sightseeing and entry tickets to cultural attractions. So, you do not have to worry about anything when you are finally onboard.
Prices for a Deluxe Cabin on SINGLE OCCUPANCY start at $8,330 for 1 person and $11,900 on DOUBLE OCCUPANCY (2 persons).
Prices for a PRESIDENTIAL SUIT for a SINGLE OCCUPANCY (single person) start at $17,850 and $17,850 for 2 persons.
