PUSHKAR TOUR
Located in the Ajmer District of Rajasthan, 83 miles southwest of the capital city of Jaipur, the quaint little town of Pushkar is a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Sikhs.
Tens of thousands of pilgrims throng to its sacred temples to pray and take holy baths on the Ghat (embankments) on the banks of Lake Pushkar.
One of the oldest cities in India (and also the venue for the iconic Pushkar Camel Fair (the largest livestock fair-cum-festival in the country), Pushkar is famous for its sacred Pushkar Sarovar Lake which is revered in the Hindu tradition as one of the cherished creations of Lord Brahma.
Attendance at the Brahma Temple and a dip in the lake at the Brahma Ghat are believed to cure your soul and cleanse your sins.
The Savitri Temple, Varaha Temple, Gayatri Mata Temple and Rangji Temple are other important religious sites of the Hindu faith. The stunningly beautiful white-marbled Gurudwara Sahib Pushkar and the adopted home of the 10th Sikh Guru (now the Guru Gobind Ghat) are revered by the Sikhs.
However, for international and many Indian tourists, the Pushkar Camel Fair (Pushkar Mela/Kartik Mela)—a swashbuckling colorful melee of livestock trade, cultural festivity, rapturous folk music and dances, traditional games, snake charming, puppet shows and animal parades— is the top draw of Pushkar.
Held in the month of Kartik as per the Hindu lunar calendar, the 8-day Pushkar Mela attracts tens of thousands of tourists.

Frequently Asked Questions
If your visit coincides with the Pushkar Mela (festival) which will be held in November this year, you might consider staying a couple of days more to immerse yourself completely in the cultural spectacles.
WINTER (NOVEMBER-OCTOBER) is the best time of the year to visit all of Rajasthan, including Pushkar.
Temperatures range from 58 °F to 80 °F during the daytime and the weather is ideal for outdoor activities, desert safaris and cultural excursions.
Please bear in mind that the region is a dry arid desert terrain, so summers can get hot and the mercury rises above 100 °F.
The Pushkar Mela (Festival) is when the region offers an exciting gala of festivity, celebration and cultural immersion. The 8-day-long festival is held in the Hindu lunar month of Karthik.
This year it will coincide with 20-28 November on the Gregorian calendar.
In the Hindu faith, there are 33 million gods and goddesses but three deities, Lord Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver) and Shiva (the destroyer) are considered the gods of gods.
While Vishnu and Shiva are widely worshipped in thousands of temples across India, there are not many temples for Lord Brahma (the Creator).
Legend has it that Lord Brahma was infatuated with Shatarupa, a beautiful female deity. This indecency did not sit well with Lord Shiva who put a curse on him that ensured that Brahma won’t be worshipped anywhere.
According to another legend, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu went to war with each other and to settle the matter Lord Shiva sent both of them on a task to find the end of pillar of light he had created.
This task was meant to settle the debate between the two and establish who the superior god is. Both came back unsuccessful thousands of years later, but Lord Brahma lied about having successfully accomplished the feat. This anger Shiva who placed a curse on him.
