Two to three days is a good enough time for a trip to Jaisalmer. This will cover all of the must-see attractions like the Jaisalmer Fort and the iconic Havelis of the region like Patwon ki Haveli, Salim Singh ki Haveli and Nathmal Ki Haveli.
It will also give you ample time to go on a sand dune adventure to Sam Sand Dunes, enjoy camel rides in the desert, stay at a luxury tent in Thar, get a taste of the rustic rural life and treat yourself to a pampering spa.
The WINTER (OCTOBER TO MARCH) is the best time of the year in Jaisalmer. If you want to choose any day to take the 350-mile drive to Jaisalmer from Jaipur or any other part of Rajasthan, make sure it is around the full moon night. That is when the desert, under the moonlit sky and gleaming sands, is at its majestic best.
If you are in the region in February or March, be sure to not miss THE JAISALMER DESERT FESTIVAL— a vibrant cultural extravaganza featuring cultural dances, folk music, fairs, camel races and folk games.
Loose and comfortable clothing is always a great option when going out to the desert. A cotton shirt and long pants, along with a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes are the perfect minimalist combo you need for a dune-bashing adventure.
But if you want to step out into the dunes, be sure to wear a cap or a hat, apply some sunscreen and keep a scarf or bandana handy if a sudden wind starts to blow sand around.
Jaisalmer is a desert region, so the best time to visit is during the winter months from OCTOBER TO MARCH. Temperatures during this time of the year range from 45° F to 80° F and the weather is usually clear and cool, with clear blue sky. It is the peak tourist season in Jaisalmer and the best time for sightseeing, desert safaris and camping in the desert.
Bear in mind that summers (April-June) can get atrociously hot with the mercury reaching almost 111 ° F and the monsoon months (July-September) may bring in torrential rains.
Typically, dune bashing costs around 1500-2000 Indian Rupees per person on sharing basis. But private luxury jeep rides can cost you more.
Yes, the sand dunes of the Thar Desert with their exciting crests and troughs are ideal for jeep, horse and camel safaris.
A hot air balloon ride in the dunes is another way you can enjoy the panoramic landscape of the region. Sunsets in the deserts are particularly magical.
The golden twilight hour light is perfect for memorable photography and the infinite desert just has an aura of grandeur and transcendence.

Like the brave ancestors of this region, you must venture out to the golden sands of the desert on a Rajasthani camel and enjoy a mesmerizing sunset.
